Container trade through Port Botany reached almost 184,000 TEUs* in November 2011, up by 5.6 per cent on November 2010.
Full containerised exports reached over 37,000 TEUs in November 2011, marginally down (by 1.3 per cent) on the same period last year. The leading containerised exports for the month of November were Cereals, Chemicals and Machinery and Transport Equipment. All up, these commodities represent 31 per cent of total full exports.
Full containerised imports for November 2011 reached almost 93.000 TEUs, 3.3 per cent higher than November 2010. The key import commodities for November 2011 were Machinery & Transport equipment, Miscellaneous Manufactures, Chemicals. Combined, these commodities represent over 59 per cent of total containerised imports.
The majority of containerised imports were sourced from East Asia (49.3 per cent) and South East Asia (15.0 per cent), which combined accounted for over 64 per cent of total container imports through Port Botany.
After a previous month when maintenance and industrial relations issues at Port Botany created congestion at the quayside, trade performance is back on track.
