Sydney Ports participates in a marine disaster exercise at Port Botany on Saturday 29 March 2008

The exercise titled 'Exercise Platypus' also involved the NSW Police Force Marine Area Command, NSW Maritime, NSW Ambulance, NSW Fire Brigades, Westpac Lifesaver Helicopter, State Emergency Service, Australian Volunteer Coast Guard, Royal Volunteer Coastal Patrol and Surf Lifesaving Australia.

The agencies worked together to respond to a scenario where a vessel with more than 35 passengers sank after an incident onboard.

The exercise allowed all agencies to evaluate the skills of all emergency services in responding to such incidents.
