Sydney Ports leads another successful oil spill exercise in Botany Bay
Sydney Ports and Caltex Kurnell participated in an oil spill exercise on Friday 23 May 2008 in Botany Bay. This exercise, in the vicinity of the Caltex marine facilities at Kurnell was designed to test the response times and preparedness of organisations in handling oil spills.
Grant Gilfillan addresses key business representatives at CEDA Conference
Sydney Ports Chief Executive Grant Gilfillan addressed 170 key business and government representatives at the Committee for the Economic Development of Australia (CEDA) on Thursday 15 may 2008. He emphasised the need for cooperation, coordination and compliance of those operating within the logistics chain to ensure the efficient movement of goods to their destination. He highlighted the work that Sydney Ports is doing in the area with major projects going forward to improve the efficiency in the delivery of goods.
Enfield Intermodal Logistics Centre – a step forward in the delivery
Sydney Ports Corporation has moved forward with the development of its Intermodal Logistics Centre by calling for Registrations of Interest from Design and Technical Advisors, to deliver the design of the base infrastructure.
Strong trade growth continues through the ports of Sydney
The ports of Sydney are continuing to experience strong trade growth. Total trade for the financial year to 31 March 2008 reached 22.5 million mass tonnes, an increase of 8 per cent compared to the same period last year.
ROI for VTS System vendors or consortia
Maintaining safe navigation in the ports for commercial shipping Sydney Ports Corporation (SPC) is responsible for the safe navigation of trading vessels within Sydney’s Ports, comprising Port Jackson and Port Botany. With the forecast increase in vessel visits over the ext few years, SPC is replacing its existing vessel monitoring system and is seeking Registrations of Interest from capable VTS system vendors or consortia to provide the required system.
Supporting the local community- the Festival of Kurnell
Continuing the support of the local communities around the port, Sydney Ports is sponsoring the Festival of Kurnell on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 April. Sydney Ports has been involved with the festival for the past 6 years and this year the popular event is expected to attract approximately 20,000 Sydneysiders.

Total trade for the first eight months of the 2007/08 financial year recorded 20.2 million mass tonnes, an increase of 8.9% on the same period last year.

Big ships, small boats - responsible boating in working ports
The ports of New South Wales such as Sydney Harbour, Port Botany and Newcastle are large commercial working harbours and popular waterways for small recreational vessels.
The 'big ships, small boats' website is designed to help skippers of small recreational boats to better understand the movements of large trading vessels around the state's busy ports.
The website is the collaborative effort of Sydney Ports, Newscatle Port, Port Kembla and NSW Maritime to enhance safety around working ports.

Strong trade growth continues through the ports of Sydney. Total container trade through Sydney’s ports for the first seven months of 2007/08 recorded just over 1 million TEUs, an increase of 8.6 per cent compared to the same period last year.
Sydney Ports participates in a statewide oil spill exercise
Sydney Port's operations personnel participated in a statewide oil spill exercise in Coffs Harbour on Wednesday 12 and Thursday 13 March with 140 people from organisations across NSW. Our emergency team responds to more than 200 reports of marine pollution every year, with less than two per cent of these pollution reports sourced from commercial shipping operations.

Port Botany Expansion Project
Following the announcement of a shortlist for the Design and Construction contract, the two consortia Baulderstone Hornibrook-Jan de Nul and Leighton-Van Oord, have received the tender documentation from Sydney Ports. Tenders close at the end of July 2007 with a tenderer expected to be selected in November 2007. The construction contractor is scheduled to be operational on site early in 2008.
