As part of the Port Botany Expansion project, Sydney Ports is constructing an elevated road network in Penrhyn Road to eliminate the existing level road and rail crossing, which has been constraining truck access to Brotherson Dock for many years.
The works, referred to as the Grade Separation Works, consist of eight major elements, including a large elevated round-about, three access ramps and four bridge spans linking the ramps to the round-about.
Works commenced in early 2011 and at present two of the ramps and one bridge span have been constructed. Construction of the elevated round-about started in November 2011 and is expected to be completed by June 2012. Upon completion of the round-about, the remaining bridge structures and third ramp will commence. The project is expected to be completed in the 4th quarter of 2012.

This vital part of the Port Botany Expansion project has now taken its final shape - a giant 6,500-tonne roundabout, suspended over the freight railway lines servicing Patricks and Sydney International Container Terminals Pty Limited.
