Included as part of the Port Botany Expansion is a $30 million community facilities upgrade package design to benefit the local environment and community. A Concept Design and Visual Amenity Management Plan (VAMP) has been prepared for the Foreshore Beach / Public Realm areas. Features of the plan include:
- a four-lane boat ramp, with two pontoons, a car park, boat engine washing and viewing platform adjacent to Foreshore Road. This ramp will have enclosed fish cleaning facilities
- enhancement of Foreshore Beach dune areas with new native vegetation plantings
- a pedestrian and cycle path
- solar lighting
- a new amenities building with toilets, water bubbler, shower and foot-washing facilities and dog bowl
- a recycled water system that will capture water from the car park and amenities building roof for use in toilets and for washing boat engines
- a pedestrian bridge to link Sir Joseph Banks Park with the beach and a second pedestrian bridge over the Botany Freight Line at Banksia Street
- a new lookout at the Mill Stream with parking and a new pathway linking it to the beach
- viewing platform and bird hide at Penrhyn Estuary
- separate truck access onto Foreshore Road from the new terminal to improve traffic flows
- a $3 million contribution towards construction of a new gymnasium at J.J. Cahill High School at Mascot.
