Project Update

Welcome to the ILC at Enfield Project update page.

• Leighton Contractors commenced Early Works in October 2010, including work associated with the a new vehicular bridge over RailCorp's New Enfield Marshalling Yards to connect the ILC Site with Wentworth Street. Work on the bridge was largely completed in the first half of 2011.
• As part of the Early Works and site preparation works, Leightons have also completed earthworks and stabilisation of the frog ponds, pond fringing areas and the south eastern noise mound, constructed an access track in the southern part of the site, relocated services in Wentwork Street, conducted various electrical works within the site and a number of investigations and trials.
• Other Early Works to be carried out by Leightons during 2012 include rail connections to the north and south of the site.
• Main Construction Works, which will include construction of the ILC base infrastructure, works at the intersection of Roberts Road and Norfolk Road, off-site utility connections, remaining noise walls, frog movement corridor and landscaping commenced in July 2011 and will continue over approximately two years.

Leighton Contractors continue to implement environmental management controls at the site in accordance with the approved Construction Environmental Management Plans and the Project Approval. These controls include:  

• frog clearance surveys undertaken by a specialist herpetologist prior to works commencing and installation of frog fences around potential Green and Golden Bell Frogs' (GGBF) habitat areas. No Green and Golden Bell Frogs have been recorded at the site to date
• dust control measures such as, water carts, vehicle and equipment management, progressive stabilisation of disturbed areas and work staging
• processing and managing unexpected contamination finds
• traffic, noise, soil, water, heritage protection and waste management measures.
