Construction Features

Baulderstone Hornibrook – Jan de Nul are constructing the following port and related facilities.

 

Port Facility

  • Five new shipping berths and container storage
  • 1850m wharf frontage
  • Reclamation of approximately 60ha of land requiring 7.8m cubic metres
  • Concrete counterfort solution to create the wall of the new port
  • 200 precast counterfort units weighing 620tn each will be assembled on site
  • Precast yard producing one counterfort unit per day
  • 270,000 tonne of revetment and scour protection rock for placement around the counterforts
  • Rear crane rail founded on 300 bored piles of 1500 diametre
  • Inter-terminal road rail corridor.

Other Works

  • Upgrade and restoration of Foreshore Beach
  • Two new lookouts at the eastern and western ends of Foreshore Beach including a bird lookout at the western end
  • A pedestrian/cycleway with rest areas
  • A new boat ramp with four lanes, pontoons, parking and public amenities
  • A new pedestrian bridge over Foreshore Road linking Sir Joseph Banks Park with Foreshore Beach
  • Improvement of the habitat for shore birds, providing a superior ecological area
  • Penrhyn Estuary environmental enhancement works
  • A pedestrian/cycleway with rest areas
  • A dedicated road link from the new terminal directly to the heavy truck route on Foreshore Road, via a six span bridge.
