Sydney Ports' Heritage

Hornby-Lighthouse-ThumbSydney Ports Corporation, as a State Owned Corporation, has an obligation to the community to manage and maintain its heritage assets. In July 2006, Sydney Ports completed a Heritage Asset Management Strategy (HAMS), which identified various heritage principles and actions, as required by the Heritage Act 1977. Sydney Ports' HAMS was formally endorsed by the Heritage Office in March 2007.

 

Grotto-Point-Lighthouse-ThumbSydney Ports is required to maintain a Heritage and Conservation Register under Section 170 of the NSW Heritage Act 1977 (the S170 Register). This Register lists Sydney Ports’ assets which have been identified as having State or local heritage significance. Many of the items on the S170 Register have been listed in other heritage registers as well, such as the State Heritage Register or on Local Environmental Plans.

 

Glebe-Island-Silos-ThumbAt present, the Sydney Ports Heritage Register contains around 40 items, including items of State and local heritage significance. All items identified as having State heritage significance are proposed to be listed on the State Heritage Register, which is maintained by the Heritage Council of NSW.
