Pesticide Use Notification Plan

The New South Wales Pesticides Regulation 1995 requires public authorities such as Sydney Ports Corporation to prepare a Pesticide Use Notification Plan that outlines how they will notify the community of pesticide applications made for public places under their control.

The Sydney Ports Pesticide Use Notification Plan describes:

  • what public places are covered by the plan
  • who regularly uses these public places and an estimate of the level of use
  • how and when the community will be informed about pesticide applications in public places (i.e. what notification arrangements will be used)
  • how the community can access this plan and get more information
  • contact details for anyone wanting more information on the plan.

You can download the plan or view a printed copy at the Sydney Ports Corporation head office .

National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act

The National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007 was released by the Federal Government in September 2007 and aims to establish a national framework for corporations to report greenhouse gas emissions, reductions, removals and offsets, and energy consumption from July 1, 2008.

The Act’s goal is to reduce the number of reports companies need to send to government by eliminating duplication between state and national schemes. It is also established as a function of the future national Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme.

The Act requires corporations to register and report if they exceed the total greenhouse gas emissions or energy production or consumption thresholds within a given financial year.

Our current data and analysis indicates that Sydney Ports Corporation has emission and energy usage totals well under the thresholds and thus will not be reporting within the Act.

Australian Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme

While the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme is still a draft proposal under the current definitions and thresholds Sydney Ports Corporation will not be required to obtain a permit, develop abatement or report on emissions.

Sydney Ports Corporation is however, aware of the domino effects of the scheme and is working closely with tenants to ensure that the port community is prepared for the introduction of this scheme.

Although Sydney Ports Corporation is not required to obtain a permit, develop abatement or report on emissions, we will still being investigating innovative ways to reduce our own greenhouse gas emissions.
