Cooks River

The Cooks River rail yard is located adjacent to the dedicated rail freight line linking Port Botany to Enfield via Marrickville Junction and is approximately 7km from the port.

The 17 hectare intermodal terminal and empty container site at Cooks River was purchased by Sydney Ports in October 2005 and is currently utilised by container operators.

Retaining Cooks River for its current use will continue to provide an integrated land transport chain servicing Sydneys ports. It will also contribute to moving 40 per cent of containers by rail by 2011, which is part of a Sydney Ports strategy to manage the growth of containers through Port Botany.

The purchase of this site will secure the continued operation of these services for port users and regional exporters at a location in close proximity to Port Botany and on the dedicated freight rail line. Improvements to the site were undertaken during 2005/06, including refinement of road and rail transport operations.
