The written approval of the Harbour Master is required for any proposed works (whether undertaken in relation to a Sydney Ports facility or not) that will disturb the bed of the Special Port Areas of Botany Bay and Sydney Harbour. In this context, 'Special Port Areas' means the Port of Sydney and the Port of Botany Bay, and any managed land adjoining or adjacent to such port.
For some development proposals where Permission to Lodge or a Part 5 Approval is being sought from Sydney Ports, a Harbour Master Approval will also be required. In these situations the application will be referred to the Harbour Master for assessment and if appropriate, written approval will be issued with Sydney Ports' approval.
For all other developments (i.e. developments which do not require a Sydney Ports (Permission to Lodge or Part 5 Approval) the Harbour Master Approval Process is to be followed.
This process includes providing Sydney Ports with all final documentation (assessment reports and plans) for review together with a completed Harbour Master Approval Form.
The Harbour Master may impose conditions on any approval to disturb the sea bed.
