Expansion of Intertidal Flats: The estuary is currently made up of approximately 3.4ha of intertidal flats suitable for the shorebirds. This will be expanded to 13.8ha. Much of this habitat will be created by the removal of dunes west of Floodvale Drain and the filling of deeper parts of the estuary with sand from the dune and clean dredged material.
Permanent Bird Roosting Islands: Three roosting islands will be constructed in the estuary using clean sand and elevated so that they are only occasionally covered by king tides. The total area of the islands will be 1650m2. The largest island has been designed in the shape of a boomerang to allow maximum viewing opportunities from the new lookout.
New Estuary Lookout: Adjacent to the bird roosting island a viewing platform and bird hide will be constructed for public viewing of the Estuary.

Creating New Saltmarsh Habitat: The estuary saltmarsh community will also benefit from the works through transplanting and seed collection, propagation and planting within the estuary. This community is important to the shorebirds in the area as it provides suitable roosting habitat.
