Port Botany Container Trade Growth Continues In February

Sydney Ports has again achieved record container throughput, with Port Botany’s container volumes reaching over 147,400 TEU* in February 2010, an increase of 25.4% on the same month last year.

Sydney Ports has had consecutive record container throughput over the past five months, which further demonstrates Sydney’s resilience in trade. And, the outlook for the local economy and consequently trade volumes remains positive.

Trade performance for the YTD February 2009/10 was 1.301 million TEU, up 4.3% on the same period last year.

Full containerised exports in February 2010 are consistent to the same period last year.

Key export commodity growth has come from Paper products (up 14.2%), Chemicals (up 14.8%) and non-ferrous metals (up 31.0%).

Full imports for February 2010, were 72,800 TEU, up 45.1% on the same period last year
