Container trade through Port Botany reached almost 174,000 TEUs in December 2011, a rise of 1.3 per cent on December 2010.
Full containerised imports for December 2011 reached almost 83.790 TEUs, 1.4 per cent higher than December 2010.
Full containerised exports reached almost 35,520 TEUs in December 2011, and year to date were up 0.5% on the same period last year.
Sydney Ports Chief Executive Officer, Grant Gilfillan, said the leading containerised exports for the month of December were Cereals, Chemicals and Machinery and Transport Equipment.
"All up, these commodities represent 30 per cent of total full exports," he said.
