New Passenger Gangway to Support Cruise Industry

New Passenger Gangway to Support Cruise Industry

New OPT GangwaySydney Ports Corporation this month took delivery of new important port infrastructure – a new $3 million state-of-the-art gangway for the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay.

“With Sydney facing another bumper season as one of the world’s leading cruise ship destinations, the installation and commissioning of this new gangway could not have come at a better time,” Mr Gilfillan said.
“A total of 117 vessels are scheduled to stop off in Sydney this season – that’s close to last year’s record 120 cruise ship arrivals and quarter of a million passengers.

“The cruise industry is important to Sydney – and the Sydney Harbour experience is important to the cruise industry.

“That’s why the NSW Government and Sydney Ports Corporation are working with the industry to provide the right services and support as well as infrastructure.

“Sydney is Australia’s cruise hub and is the only Australian city to operate two dedicated passenger terminals; at OPT and also at Darling Harbour,” Mr Gilfillan said.

The new gangway will mean improved passenger safety and comfort when boarding and disembarking. It means the OPT can cater to a far wider range of vessels that have varying disembarking deck heights.

The new gangway was assembled and commissioned by local firm Avionics in partnership with FMT Sweden.
