Four Black Hawk helicopters flew over the Sydney CBD and in the vicinity of the Overseas Passenger Terminal, Circular Quay as part of a training exercise on the morning of Friday, 19 November 2010.
The Black Hawks flew over the cruise passenger ship, Holland America Line’s Volendam, from 10:30am conducting ‘approach and hover’ manoeuvres.
The sight of Black Hawk helicopters over Circular Quay was a novelty for members of the public. Everyone at Circular Quay was at a stand-still looking up watching in awe as the magnificent machines undertook their training in perfect synchronisation.
The exercise ensures pilots and aircrew are well trained for flying in all conditions across city and urban areas.
Executive Officer of the 6th Aviation Regiment, Major Paul Lewis said the training had been designed to have as little impact on residents as possible.
“We thank residents and business owners around Circular Quay for their patience and cooperation while this necessary and essential training was undertaken,” said Major Lewis.
