Ports and Waterways Minister Paul McLeay recently announced Master Mariner Bryan Smith has been appointed the new Chairman of the Sydney Ports Corporation. As well as announcing the appointment of two new directors; John Brogden and Talal Yassine.

Sydney Ports Corporation CEO Grant Gilfillan officially welcomed the largest container vessel to visit Australia, the Xin Yan Tai measuring nearly three football fields long.

Sydney Ports is continuing construction of the third terminal at Port Botany – passing a milestone with the completion of major dredging works this month.

This cruise season Sydney has welcomed four maiden visits into port, with the fourth, Princess Danae, in Sydney until the evening of March 24, 2010.

Sydney Ports has again achieved record monthly container throughput with Port Botany’s container volumes reaching over 147,400 containers (measured as TEU twenty foot equivalent unit) in February 2010.

While the nation celebrated Clean up Australia Day 2010 on Sunday, 5 March, Sydney Ports got in early and took part in Business Clean Up Australia Day which was held on Friday March 5, 2010.

On Saturday 27 March at 8.30pm, Sydney Ports switched off its lights for Earth Hour.
