Sydney Ports Signs Up For Earth Hour

Sydney Ports Signs Up For Earth Hour

On Saturday 28 March at 8.30pm all non-essential lights and equipment at Sydney Ports’ properties will be switched off in participation of Earth Hour.

Originally an Australian initiative, Earth Hour is now a global climate change initiative supported by World Wildlife Fund (WWF).

In 2009, WWF aims to reach 1 billion people in more than 1000 cities, asking them to “VOTE EARTH” by turning off their lights.

All non-essential lights will be switched off across Sydney Ports’ properties at Kent Street, Moores Wharf, Overseas Passenger Terminal, Wharf 8, Harbour Control Tower and Port Botany.

No compromise will be made with regard to safety and security requirements. Arrangements will ensure that lights required for a safe working environment will remain switched on for staff working on Saturday night (including Marine Operations and Pilots).

Lights to public access areas, such as the OPT will also remain switched on to ensure the safety of the community.

At Work

To support Earth Hour, switch off all non-essential equipment before leaving work on Friday:

  • Computers
  • Computer screens
  • Printers
  • Kitchen appliances including, microwaves, toasters, jugs.

At Home

You are encouraged to support this great Australian initiative and demonstrate that you are willing to be part of the solution by switching off your lights and appliances at the power point at 8:30pm on Saturday March 28.
