Port Botany Construction Update

The Port Botany Expansion continues to gather momentum as the project construction hits its 6 month mark.

PBE Works

With the turning of the ‘sod’ on July 2008, significant work has been undertaken to progress the project.

This project will see the reclamation of 60 hectares to facilitate the development of a 63 hectare terminal with five new shipping berths and 1,850 metres of new wharves.

This investment at Port Botany will ensure Sydney’s reputation as a competitive and reliable port well into the future.

Currently, 150 workers are employed on the construction works.

Dredging continues and to date, 820,000 cubic metres of reclamation has been achieved.

Construction of the onsite concrete batch plant commenced in December, and is due to be operational from February 2009

Creation of the rock wall at Millstream Groyne and lookout commenced in December 2008.

Work on the $ 30 million upgrade and restoration of the Foreshore Beach Public Recreation Area has commenced, including preparing the base for the new boat ramp and commencement of construction of the new pedestrian bridge to link Sir Joseph Banks Park to Foreshore Beach.

Penrhyn Estuary environmental enhancement works are also well underway with the implementation of the Penrhyn Estuary Habitat Enhancement Plan. (PEHEP)
