Super B-doubles start operation at Port Botany

Sydney Ports has received approval from the Roads & Traffic Authority (RTA) for works needed to allow super B-doubles to operate in the southern precinct of Port Botany.

Sydney Ports awarded a contract for modifications to the left hand turn from Botany Road into Penrhyn Road and the driveway entry to P&O Trans Australia (POTA) and Botany Roads.

Australian Container Freight Services (ACFS) has obtained full accreditation from the RTA for its super B-double and has commenced using this vehicle in the southern precinct of the port. Patrick is still awaiting accreditation of its super B from the RTA before it can be registered in NSW and start operating at Port Botany.

When the road works are completed, super B-double trucks will be able to access the whole of the Port Botany precinct.

A trial of two super B-doubles on the route encircling Port Botany was conducted by the RTA and Sydney Ports in May 2008. The trial identified that the civil works were required to alter the road network at two locations to allow movement of the super B-doubles.
