The judges’ comments included: “The plan succinctly sets out the issues. These are the doubling of container movements through Port Botany over the next 20 years; the need to get more intermodal facilities in the western part of Sydney and, essentially, to link the port and intermodal facilities by rail.”

The PIA also recognised Sydney Ports Senior Logistics Analyst Daniel Cavallo as the planner responsible for the development of the plan.

“Daniel deserves credit for the huge amount of work he put into the preparation of the plan,” says Sydney Ports Senior Manager Logistics & Trade, Denis Dillon.

“This includes liaison with industry, government departments, local councils and the community, as well as endorsement by Ports & Waterways Minister Joe Tripodi and approval by the then Minister for Planning, Frank Sartor.”

The PIA judges said the plan provided excellent benchmarks for operational performance and useful guidelines for metropolitan land use decision makers.
