Momentum Builds as Port Botany Expansion Progresses

Barges, dredging vessels and other structures evident in Botany Bay are just some of the signs of progress on the Port Botany Container Terminal Expansion project.

Having commenced in September 2008, dredging activities will continue through until March 2010.  The current momentum of construction activity will be increased with the addition of two cutter suction dredges, the ‘Leonardo Da Vinci’ arriving in February 2009 and the ‘Kaerius’ arriving October 2009.

The project works are occurring with close attention to potential environmental impacts.  The Project continues to observe all environmental Conditions of Approval and licence conditions, with regular monitoring in place to ensure compliance with measures designed to minimise environmental impacts.

The expansion is required to contribute to the economic growth of Sydney by allowing for greater efficiencies and more export and import of goods.  A larger port facility will make way for the growth of industries that rely on the port and will create more jobs for people in Sydney.

The project is due for completion in March 2011.
