This will include the demolition of all buildings and rail infrastructure located on the site and the remediation of contaminated areas.

It is anticipated these preconstruction demolition and remediation works will be completed by the end of May 2009.
Sydney Ports plans to use the southern end of the site, which includes the heritage tarpaulin shed, as a heritage precinct.

During preconstruction Sydney Ports will relocate a pedestrian footbridge, locomotive turntable and miscellaneous rail infrastructure items from other locations on the site to the heritage precinct.

Rail infrastructure items not required for on site heritage interpretation, but of interest to heritage organisations have been donated to recognised heritage organisations selected following an open call for expression of interests conducted by Sydney Ports on 28 October 2008.

A Community Consultative Committee will be established in the first half of 2009 before the planned commencement of main construction works in late 2009.

Due to the requirement to restrict heavy vehicle traffic to designated arterial routes, construction traffic associated with the pre-construction works will be directed onto major roads and away from local residential areas.
