Container trade through Port Botany reached almost 178,650 TEUs in October 2011.

A number of events have seriously impacted Port Botany in recent weeks.

Demolition work has started on the existing sheds at White Bay 5 in preparation for the construction of a new cruise passenger terminal, aimed at meeting the challenges of the booming cruise ship industry.

In November there were 26 cruise ship visits into Sydney Harbour with 13 berthing at each of our two dedicated cruise terminals, the Overseas Passenger Terminal and Barangaroo 5.

The Overseas Passenger Terminal (OPT) is coming under increasing operational pressure due to the growing cruise ship business and the larger capacity ships visiting Sydney.

On 24 November, Sydney Ports presented the Australian Maritime Hall of Fame Award to John Lines, Managing Director of ANL.

Deliveries of marine piles to site commenced in November for piling to start in December for the construction of the second Bulk Liquids Berth (BLB2) at Port Botany.

Sydney Ports has an annual program of dock inspections. These inspections include visual, diving and non-destructive testing of all docks, wharves and seawalls.
