Community
One of the key roles supporting Sydney Ports vision is to protect the environment and have regard to the interests of the community. We are committed to working with our stakeholders and local communities to minimise the impacts of port operations.
We work together with and support local communities as a part of our commitment to being a good neighbour. A range of initiatives are in place to do this including sponsorship of local events, establishment of consultative committees and liaison groups and investment in the upgrade of local facilities.
Specific activities include:
- Establishment of a Community Consultative Committee for the Port Botany Expansion Project
- Setting up of a Community Liaison Group for the Glebe Island/White Bay precinct
- Commitment to ongoing consultation for the Intermodal Logistics Centre at Enfield
- Ongoing sponsorship of Young Citizen of the year awards, sailing regattas, local schools and other local events
- Upgrade of Lady Robinsons Beach, a project to stabilise and restore the beach at Ramsgate
We are delivering upgrades to local facilities as a part of our port development projects:
- $20 million investment into the upgrade of Foreshore Beach and Penrhyn Estuary, including the provision of a new boat ramp, two new pedestrian bridges and a new gymnasium for a local school as a part of the Port Botany Expansion Project
- Retention and rejuvenation of an eight hectare site as a part of the development of the Intermodal Logistics Centre at Enfield including development of an environment and community area
Our commitment to the community and building relationships with wider stakeholder groups resulted in us winning the Corporate Citizenship Award at the 2006 Australian HR Awards.
