One of the key roles supporting Sydney Ports' vision is to protect the environment and have regard to the interests of the community. We are committed to working with our stakeholders and local communities to minimise the impacts of port operations.
We work together with and support local communities as a part of our commitment to being a good neighbour. A range of initiatives are in place to achieve this, including sponsorship of local events, establishment of consultative committees and liaison groups and investment in the upgrade of local facilities.
Specific activities include:
- Regular meetings of a Community Consultative Committee for the Port Botany Expansion Project
- Quarterly meetings of a Community Liaison Group for the Glebe Island/White Bay precinct and a Neighbourhood Liaison Group for Port Botany operations
- Regular meetings of a Community Liaison Committee for the Intermodal Logistics Centre at Enfield
- Ongoing sponsorship of Australia Day Jazz on the Water Concert, major supporter of Botany Bay Business Enterprise Centre, local schools and other local events
We are delivering upgrades to local facilities as a part of our port development projects:
- $30 million investment into the upgrade of Foreshore Beach, including the provision of a new boat ramp, two new pedestrian bridges and a new gymnasium for a local school as a part of the Port Botany Expansion Project
- Retention and rejuvenation of an eight hectare site as a part of the development of the Intermodal Logistics Centre at Enfield including development of an environment and community area
